Critically endangered, the Sumatran elephant is from Borneo and Sumatra. There are less than 2800 left. This amazing animal has been poached for its tusks and half of its population has been reduced because of habitat loss due to human conflict resulting in deforestation. All of my paintings in this series will highlight the animal, including birds and plants local to the area as well as fabric patterns that are native to the people.
